(6:03) – What do you see a CRM as and what is a common misconception people have when they try to approach electing or approaching a CRM?
With CRM being translated as customer relationship management, is a vast ecosystem of tools. In general it’s anything that helps the engagement between a business professional and their customer. It’s a broad range and there’s different types; help desk, sales transactions, or fundraising.
(8:00) – How would you recommend someone to select a CRM?
First identify your business goals are, what are you need to do to achieve those goals, and then to build software around that.
If you’re in a business that’s getting a lot of leads, and you’re in a high volume low transactions sales environment, and there are a lot of different sales to process, you’re going to want to use salesforce or sugarCRM. When you’re trying to manage a transaction from a to b you’ll use sales force. Understanding your business is important when picking the right CRM.
(11:40) – What are some of the starting points if you were to set up a system like Contactually or any relationship managing software?
Understand the problem you’re trying to solve. If you’re in a relationship managing business, referrals and repeat business are all important. Because we as humans forget things, there is a time decay of memory, and therefore a time decay of relationships. The best way to stay in touch with people is to touch base with them, take them out to coffee, be interested in their life, anything to remind them of your relationship’s value.
If you decide to stay in touch with someone, there’s three steps you can follow.
- Get all your contacts into one place because you have to know who you know.
(17:56) – In terms of aggregating, is there anything people can do to make it a little easier?
It’s important to understand your business goals and that not everyone is as important as each other; know the people who can help your business goals.
(20:40) – So, after you aggregate and prioritize, whats next?
Emphasize, no matter what, you must add value. Sometimes adding value just means saying hi. Showing you care is valuable.
The hardest thing about networking isn’t about the act but being consistent; it’s important to maintain consistency year after year.
The actual action you take needs to be as low friction as possible, the easier it is for you to do, the more likely you are to be consistent and continue.
(29:44) – What are the different uses of contactually?
We see a lot of people using Contactually for online dating, for example. It’s not the core use of contactually, but it works. The program can also record notes for people, then find people who may share similar interests based on the notes, and from there you can see how these people then build and use relationships.
